Wanna nerd out to some neighborhood stuff this week?
You have a few opportunities: there’s a neighborhood association meeting, business association meeting, and city council vote to move (or not) the Foster Streetscape Plan forward.
Take your pick.
Your Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association meets tonight at Bar Carlo, from 6:30 – 8. Among other things, they’ll be discussing a recent grant award to install window art in vacant storefronts along Foster; Metro Councilor, Bob Stacey, will be introducing himself; and there’ll be an update on another grant award to help fund an inter-neighborhood kickball tournament. And don’t forget to get a drink or bite to eat—it’s a public meeting, but a private establishment…support your local business, as they’re supporting you.
The Foster Area Business Association meets Tuesday at the Carts on Foster Pod Bar. Get a drink, a sausage, and learn about what’s going on in the business community. If you’re a small business owner, this could be a good way to network. Meeting starts at 4:30.
And finally, the big momma of civic happenings this week—and depending how it goes, the big momma happening of the year. The Foster Streetscape Plan will go before City Council Wednesday, as the long-anticipated plan to increase traffic safety, improve pedestrian crossings, add bike lanes and street trees and ornamental lighting, will either get adopted….or not. The June 11 City Council meeting is open to the public, and your testimony is welcome. The Plan will go to vote at 2pm. Oh, and in anticipation of the “for” vote, there will be a celebratory happy hour at O’Malley’s afterward. Thanks to the folks over at Foster United for organizing that.
