Well, it’s warmer and less windy. That’s something. But it’s only slightly warmer, and we traded the wind for rain. And for all the talk about terrible weather back East for the Super Bowl, it won’t be all that different from Portland’s. Enjoy your weekend, Foster.
Here are your weekend tidbits…
– For all the talk about needing more businesses on Foster, the few that we do have continue to get notice from outside the neighborhood. We’ve already seen An Xuyen get major props; Nayar Taqueria, Tambayan, Road Runner BBQ, Egg Carton, and Torta-landia have all been reviewed in the last year or so; N.W.I.P.A. has received a lot of love from beer aficionados; and Red Castle Games has made a lot of noise lately, too. Now, add Fat Yoga to the list. Neighborhood Notes recently included them in a list of five local alternatives to big-box gyms. Check out their article, Recharge Your Mind and Body at Portland’s Indie Movement Studios.
– Speaking of movement studios, Performance Works NW is hosting a fundraiser next Saturday, 2/8. As a reminder, the Bob White is not our only performance venue. Here’s the rundown:
Distilled: a PWNW Fundraiser! –“artists…will donate a two-to-six-minute dance, performance, work of video, poetry or hybrid form. In keeping with the theme, there will be distilled spirits as well as other refreshments, plus a raffle and silent auction.”
– We’re still eyeing the Portland Mercado and awaiting its eventual build-out at 72nd and Foster–expected in 2014. They have a lot of momentum and support going into the project, now they have a new logo to help with branding and marketing. Peep it (on right).
– This is happening: Foster Summit.
– Live music this weekend:
Starday Tavern– Josie and LeeEllen (Happy Otherwise), Friday; Spur and The Darlin Brothers, Saturday; Eddie Santos performs after the Super Bowl, Sunday
Gemini Lounge– Blue Battalion, Saturday
Torta– Eric Vanderwall holds it down on Saturday
