For those with kids—or plans to—or simply want to see better use be made of the under-used Portland Habilitation facility at 74th and Center…
The Community School, a proposed charter extension of the Wild Lilac pre-k program now setting up shop in the neighborhood, will have a public hearing today at the PPS district office. As per the Oregonian, supporters of the Community School will face a subgroup of the PPS board, to whom they’ll explain how they meet state criteria, what their financial plan is, and how they may benefit PPS if charter status is granted.
Wild Lilac has already moved into the Portland Habilitation Center, but its pre-k program does not currently fill the space. By gaining charter status and expanding, they’d be able to attract k-8 students to the proposed Community School, which aims to open in September, 2014.
