Happy Spring, FoPo! Save the Date(s)

Welcome to Spring, FoPo!

We lept forward a couple weeks ago, but the weather’s currently dragging us down.  We can still be excited for the season’s change, however, and have plenty to look forward to.

No doubt, there will be a lot going on in the coming weeks, but we wanted to put a couple events on your radar…

Neighborhood Cleanup  In what’s become an annual event to raise money for the Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association, this year’s neighborhood cleanup will take place on May 5th at Arleta Elementary.  For those who are unfamiliar with the event, this is an opportunity to rid yourself of those household items that are either too big for your trash can or you’re too lazy to haul to the dump.  The Neighborhood Association will provide a handful of dumpsters, thanks to vouchers from Metro, to take trash and unwanted items off your hands.  For a nominal fee, which would be less than paying at the dump (plus a lot closer), you can support the NA buy disposing locally.  We’ll have more details later, but the NA is also looking for volunteers to either help with unloading on site or passing out fliers to the neighborhood.  Let us know if you have an interest in helping.

Sweetness Supper Club  Yes, Kay and the rest of the gang at Sweetness Bakery will be hosting another dinner event this Spring.  First started in February, the Sweetness Supper Club opens the cafe to diners who would otherwise be limited to breakfast items, pastries, and coffee in the morning and early afternoon.  Sweetness will show off their culinary skills with dinner now…but it’s only one night a month, and seating will be limited to 20 diners.  So get your reservations in now.  The next Supper Club will be on Monday, April 23rd.  You can email sweetnessbakeryandcafe@gmail.com for more information or to make reservations.

FoPo Garden Tour  No date has been established, but this yearly event is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors, get inspiration from other yards, and see the beauty that exists in FoPo.  Usually held the third weekend in June, the all-day event typically includes raffles, food and drink (last year there was homemade beer and sangria along the route), and tee-shirts for sale.  We’ll let you know the date when it’s announced.

If you have an event you’d like to draw attention to, please let us know.  And as always, we’ll keep you posted on other goings on, too.

Not sure if I’ll be able to volunteer, but I’ve taken trash to the Neighborhood Cleanup for a few years now. The event is much appreciated. My only request is to keep us posted about what isn’t accepted; I’ve got some things which will probably have to go off to Recology, but I’d love to save the trip.

Also the Sweetness Supper Club is really good. Excellent food and company.

    • Thanks for the feedback, Arthur. We’ll keep you posted, for sure. I’m assuming there won’t be a yard debris dumpster, as we now have weekly residential pickups. As far as the rest, I’ll pass on the details as they come in.

As for Sweetness…glad to hear you had a positive experience. I haven’t yet been, but it seems like it’s worth checking out.
