Who are you?
A SE Portland resident – born in Nicaragua and raised in the SF bay area, finally found a true home in Portland (after detours in Boston and Philadelphia). I’m a husband, a father, a student, and a community organizer.
What do you do?
I dedicate about a quarter of the year to Feast for Southeast. This is a community Thanksgiving project that I have wanted to do for a long time, that I finally put into action last year. I’ve been extremely fortunate to be awarded a small neighborhood grant in order to continue this work. I’m currently also earning my Bachelors degree to better equip myself for more of the same type of work. For a paycheck I currently work in sales and rental of construction equipment.
What is your inspiration? (Why do you do what you do?)
Giving inspires me. Meeting people’s needs inspires me. I do what I do because I love to see people coming together for the common good.
What brought you and/or your business to the Foster-Powell Community?
It’s where I live, eat, drink, breathe, etc. It’s where I want to be. It’s where I want to serve.
What is your favorite way to enjoy Foster?
Brunch & Bloody Mary’s at Bar Carlo (especially when they have crepe specials), tacos and margaritas during nighttime happy hour at Torta-landia, coffee and good music at Yo Mama’s. Pupusas at Ma Tona’s (if I can ever catch that place open). I miss Guapo’s…RIP.
3 Ways to unite the Fine Folks of Foster
1. Get involved with Feast for Southeast
2. Come out to Fun on Foster and make it a point to meet someone new
3. Identify some needs in the community that we can join forces to meet (and please let me know what those might be)
How do you envision the future of Foster?
I envision further neighborhood revitalization with more small businesses filling the storefront spaces. Speed bumps or stricter speed limits would help Foster become more foot-traffic friendly. A Foster farmer’s market (other than the lovely one in Lents) would be fabulous in the future.
Some top fives to appease the list lovers……
