Rebuilding Marysville–Update from PPS meeting

I heart technology. How else could I know about what’s going down with Marysville? As you may recall, a fire gutted the school back in December ’09. Thankfully, all of the staff and students were safely evacuated. And now the wheels are rollin’ to rebuild. Here’s an update from the Rebuilding Marysville in SE Portland Facebook page, written by Braheem Hazeem:

Last night there was Portland Public School board meeting.

Because of my involvement with this site I heard from The Portland Tribune, (they were there last night).

Here is what I know.

1. The new school will open Jan 2012 and kids will move in over Christmas break 2011.

2. No construction will begin until fall 2010 and there will be Public comments over the summer.

3. Insurance will pay 4.5 Million and 8-16 million is needed. A bond will be used for difference.

4. Not sure if the new school will house 500 or 750 children.

I have strong opinions about all of this. You will see my opinions in the Tribune. The Tribune is working on a story for this Thursday.

If you have anything you want to say to The Tribune e-mail Jennifer Anderson, janderson@portlandtribune.com.

Thank you, I will keep you posted.

Braheem

PS Get more people to join our site, especially business folks that support the school. DO IT NOW!!

A big thanks to Braheem for letting me copy and paste this message here. I’ll be looking out for your pic shining forth from the Tribune, Braheem. :) If you’re interested in following this issue, I recommend that you check back here regularly, and also follow the Facebook page Braheem and Stephanie Hazeem have created.

For the full story of the fire and a video of some super-cute (and amazingly wise) comments from some students that were evacuated,  read The Oregonian’s story on the Marysville fire.

As a Fo-Po resident, have you noticed the school? What do you think about the rebuilding process? Do share your comments below.
