Hi there Fo-Po-istas. I am sporadic in my stories, but when I do have one, they are GOOD. This is one of the good ones, at least if your thumb is as green as mine. It’s a plant sale, but not just any plant sale. This one is special because it benefits Portland Public School’s Community Transition Center. The CTC helps PPS young adults transition into independence. I went to this sale in the fall last year, and was absolutely delighted with the attentive help from the students and the INSANE low prices. (I’m serious, my tomatoes were, like $3 each. And they were big.) So, if you’re looking to get some good spring veggies in the ground, here’s your chance! Here’s the 411, via CNRG:
“Greetings Gardeners! It’s that time of year again for Portland Public School’s Community Transition Center Early Spring Plant Sale. The sale runs from March 15th-19th from 8:30-3:00 daily. We are located at 6801 SE 60th and Duke St. in Greenhouse #1. We have a wide variety of edible and ornamental plants for sale including: arugula, broccoli, broccoli raab, collards, cauliflower, garden sorrel, swiss chard, assorted lettuces, chrysanthemums, spider plants, licorice ferns, assorted lilies, sedums, and much much more! The Community Transition Center is a Portland Public School program for young adults that emphasizes vocational experience and life skills. Students in the program are responsible for starting, caring for, and maintaining the plant stock in the greenhouse. Your purchases return to our greenhouse program to support student learning. We will be hosting 2 more sales with lots more available in April and May. If you have any UNBROKEN nursery pots that you would like to recycle through us we’d be happy to take them. We use 3 1/2″, 4″, and gallon sized pots. We do not have a use at this time for larger sized pots. Please email me if you’d like a flyer for complete details. On behalf of the students at the Community Transition Center, we look forward to seeing you!”

Here’s what I got at the plant sale… all for $19.50!!!– 6-pack of mixed lettuce– 6-pack of broccoli– 6-pack of cauliflower– 6-pack of arugula– 6-pack of edible flowers– A beautiful iris– 3 mini sedums– An wild strawberry plant– A “wandering Jew” (which I feel I must put in quotes to show that I feel the name of the plant is derrogatory), a very nice trailing houseplant….And I feel like I’m forgetting something. Even so, you gotta admit that’s a darn good deal! So, go to the plant store and get yer spring garden growing!
