My wife and I have only just learned of Cava’s closure last month. Perhaps that means we didn’t support it as much as we could have, but we had been there quite a few times over the last year, since moving in to Foster Powell. We thought it was one of the best restaurants in Portland, let alone FoPo, and our friends agreed. The perfect combination of cozy ambiance, fabulous food and interesting drinks. A real gem in the neighborhood’s fledgling crown. We will miss it sorely, and we will hold out hope that it can be resurrected in the not-too-distant future.
It’s a sad day for the neighborhood, but hopefully the trend of new and diverse businesses coming in can continue.
I guess it’s a lesson for us all… Remember to support your local establishments!

We threw them as much business as we could — obviously not enough.
Probably the larger economic situation didn’t help any. I really held it up as a bright spot in the ‘hood and hoped it presaged better things to come. Alas!–JT
I only went to CAVA a few times but I truly believe they had the best burger in Portland. I am very sad this great neighborhood spot closed.
I miss the bar in the middle where you could hang your purse. I miss the animal paintings. I miss that lovely St. Germain drink. I miss saying hi to Randy. Come back CAVA! We need you!
