Portland’s growth is official. This ain’t no cow town anymore, Elmira. My evidence? The opening of the first public restroom opening in downtown PDX– see the story “Innovative public loo unveiled” at KOIN.com for more information.
If you’ve been to SF, NY, or Europe, you know how these public restrooms work. Stick in a quarter (or will it be a dollar in these unpredicable economic times?) and have your scatalogical needs filled without having to sneak into unwilling businesses.
The $25,000 price tag for the “Portland loo” sounds worth it. You can’t even do a decent bathroom remodel for that price, and these babies are bulletproof, of steel construction, and solar powered. I might have to make a special trip downtown. A crowd of 100 was present for the public throne’s grand opening today, and three more will open soon.
Where would you put up a public loo in Foster-Powell? Also, if anyone knows the actual address of this “pissoir,” comment and I’ll add it to the map… it’s somewhere in old town, but I am torn from my blog duties by work.
