Holiday shopping is going to be different this year. Like 70% US adults, I’m cutting back on unneccessary spending. As much as I may wish to deny it, according to the numbers, I’m completely average. Consumer spending is taking a nosedive, and I’m just a part of the pack that’s along for the ride.
So, my wallet let out a sigh of relief when my family came to the collective decision to make most of our gifts ourselves. Typing that, I can’t help but feel a little like Laura Ingalls Wilder. Remember, they always spent weeks before Christmas hand-making presents? Well, I’m not breaking in new callouses or anything, but I am actually looking forward to hunkering down in front of a rain-streaked window, craft in lap, frothy hot beverage nearby.
Trillium Artisans is a great place to find meaningful, unique gifts and beautiful yet inexpensive craft materials. Plus, when you shop at Trillium you’ll get the satisfaction of knowing your spending choices are helping your crafty neighbors, since Trillium is a non-profit dedicated to empowering and promoting local artisans that use recycled materials. (How Portland is that?!)
So, just call me Super Laura. After all, this supergirl can craft, save money, and support green, sustainable, empowering businesses in one fell swoop!
FoPo Feedback Time!
- Are you changing your Christmas spending habits? If so, how?
- What’s the best Christmas craft project for Dads? (Mine’s impossible to shop for, let alone craft for!)
- And finally, (and most importantly) what’s your superhero alias? Why?
